Bombadier Innovates Again With a More Environmentally-Friendly Four Stroke Sea-Doo Watercraft

Powered by a new Rotax 1500 4-TEC 155 HP engine

Stuart, Florida August 21, 2001 - Bombardier Recreational Products has introduced the company's first four-stroke powered watercraft engine to the public with the unveiling of the all-new Sea-Doo® GTX 4-TEC TM watercraft. Produced in Austria by Bombardier-Rotax GmbH, which has a long heritage in manufacturing high-quality, high-performance four-stroke engines, the 2002 Sea-Doo® GTX 4-TEC's TM engine is revolutionary. The 4-TEC is most efficient in terms of fuel consumption and air emission control and not only meets environmental standards, but also exceeds those set by the EPA for 2006.

While owners of the new Sea-Doo GTX 4-TEC will be able to say that they have a more environmentally-friendly watercraft, they will also experience two of the most appealing features of the 4-TEC engine: its power and sound. With 1494 cc and 155 hp the powerful engine offers ultra smooth acceleration and emits a rich, low-frequency purr at speed. This combination of power, sound, and feel is totally unique to watercraft.

The 2002 GTX 4-TEC is in fact powered by an inline 1494cc, 12-valve, 3-cylinder 155 hp engine that offers a smooth ride and creates a tremendous amount of torque, which supplies its operators with incredible acceleration and great top-end speed. The power delivery is very linear, making the GTX 4-TEC a great watercraft for towing wakeboarders, skiers and tubes.

The 1500 4-TEC uses a closed-loop cooling system, which eliminates the chance of debris clogging the engine and possibly causing overheating. This engineering feat uses the rideplate as a heat exchanger for the engine coolant in the same fashion as an automobile radiator. Another innovation is TOPS TM (Tip Over Protection System), which operates on a dry sump system that activates a valve to stop oil flow into the combustion chambers should the watercraft capsize.

The 4-TEC engine is designed to withstand most of the demanding conditions that Sea-Doo watercraft are put through by their owners. As such, the 4-TEC engine was engineered and developed to offer its owners peace-of-mind while on the water. Reliability is a standard feature of the 4-TEC engine, which utilizes high-grade materials throughout while maintaining the Sea-Doo watercraft tradition of offering an excellent power-to-weight ratio.

Owners will appreciate the low maintenance and reliability of the Sea-Doo GTX 4-TEC watercraft as they will be able to enjoy a complete riding season before having to change the oil. The 4-TEC is also engineered to operate on 87 octane unleaded gasoline and is more fuel efficient at top speeds than any other watercraft Sea-Doo has produced. The 4-TEC also carries the highly praised Sea-Doo Learning Key TM, which provides less experienced riders with the opportunity to learn how to operate watercraft with greater confidence and control. Trained technicians at authorized Sea-Doo dealerships will appreciate the service-friendly 4-TEC as it provides a very comprehensive diagnostic program with an increased number of troubleshooting codes.
